Discussion Starter: Evangelical Christianity on VICE News
VICE is a media group originally launched in the mid-90s to cover emerging counter-cultural topics not being positively represented in media. Today, they have expanded to include multiple publications, film productions, a music label, and are a frequent source of news programming for their targeted millennial audience through their online documentaries, shorts, and VICE News programs - one of which is hosted weekly by HBO (Vice News Tonight and VICE Weekly).
Ironically, in an increasingly polarizing political and cultural climate, orthodox expressions of Christianity which seek to subvert common socio-political divides in America are themselves counter-cultural, and thus interesting to VICE. VICE recently did a piece on evangelical Christianity that may provide a helpful discussion platform for students regarding stereotypes of Christians, Christianity and politics, or how to think about various sins in the world without losing sight of people.
